Warclaw Delay and Layoffs?
Delyndia

February 27, 2019

Today ArenaNet put out a post on their official Guild Wars 2 forums with information on the delay of the update for the Warclaw and recent layoffs. You can click here to read there post or you can stay here and read my short version.

So first the Warclaw.

Basically the Warclaw was delayed because of the layoffs they made and they will be re-evaluateing their schedules “to make sure that our releases are realistic and allow us the time to make sure they hit our internal quality bar.”

SO… now to the layoffs, this will be a lot off quoting.

On ArenaNet’s post they said “The studio has recently been affected by layoffs, which is going to take some time to process. There’s no easy way for any team to adjust to that. We’ve had to say goodbye to friends and colleagues that we’ve worked alongside for years. We’re welcoming back some familiar faces to the Guild Wars 2 team that had been working on unannounced projects. After all is said and done, it’s going to take some time for us to adjust to our staffing changes.”

Okay yeah, ArenaNet has let go of some of their employees and it is taking effect on there release of the Warclaw.

OKAY…yes I was really looking forward to the Warclaw, and i’m really bummed out about the update for it being delayed.

So why are they laying off their employees, this is what I found.  According to Kotaku, article on February 21, 2019, the CEO of NCSoft West which owns ArenaNet stated:

“Our live game business revenue is declining as our franchises age, delays in development on PC and mobile have created further drains against our revenue projects, while our operating costs in the west have increased”, and “ Where we are is not sustainable, and is not going to set us up for future success”.

Now this what I found from PCGAMER after they contacted ArenaNet on February 21, 2019.

In response to our inquiry, ArenaNet issued the following statement:

“We can confirm that due to the cancellation of unannounced projects, ArenaNet will make staff reductions. This is part of a larger organizational restructuring within NCSoft in the west, but the Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 game services will not be affected, nor is any upcoming game content canceled.”

The studio declined to comment on the number of employees affected by the cuts.”

So basically what I get out of this, NCSoft is consolidating for the future of the company and ArenaNet is stating our game will continue on.

So what does this mean for our beloved game?

Well…. ”The Guild Wars 2 team is still committed to bringing content and feature updates to the game. The next episodes of Living World are already in development, Swiss tournament support is coming to PvP, we’re looking at more WvW events coming soon, and the return of the Super Adventure Festival is imminent. Our long-term plans for the game like World Restructuring and large-scale improvements to quality of life are still in the works.”

So WvW is going to get their oversized cat mount next week, delayed but it’s still coming…thankfully. So what about Living world, I mean will  Aurene magicly come back from the dead OR did AreuaNet seriously just kill off my dragon!

Okay okay fine…I guess i’ll stop complaining about it.

Anyway, back to Living world, this is what i found out.

From there post on their official Guild Wars 2 forum on February 22, 2019:

“We know you have a lot of questions about the future of Guild Wars 2. We want to share with you what to expect moving forward for the game. First and foremost, we are still fully committed to all of our players and ongoing support of the game. We will be moving directly from Living World Season 4 into Season 5 as promised, and we plan to continue a regular cadence of updates and releases.”

Well that about all for now on this subject. I got to vent about the Warclaw being delayed and ArenaNet killing off my dragon and not even giving out a free Aurene plush mini for completing the chapter. I mean, come on, something would have been nice.  But, they are saying things will get better and I sure hope so this game has become a good part of my life and I have played it for years.

Okay, so that’s all for now. Bye
